Nearly 1 in 8 people suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder at some point in their life.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is a condition in which people experience excessive anxiety in situations where they may feel judged or embarrassed. SAD often begins in adolescence but may also be experienced in childhood, and many people report that the condition continues through adulthood.

In this randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study, daily treatment with CBD was found to relieve symptoms of Social Anxiety Disorder.

Thirty-seven 18- and 19-year-olds with SAD were given either CBD isolate or placebo over a four-week period. CBD was taken in a single daily afternoon dose. After four weeks of treatment, CBD significantly decreased symptoms of SAD.

Previous research has found that a single dose of CBD can reduce symptoms of anxiety in a stressful situation.

Researchers previously found that when people with SAD were placed in an anxiety-provoking situation, a single high dose of CBD decreased anxiety relative to a placebo treatment. The scenario was simulated public speaking, which is a situation associated with judgement and potential embarrassment.

Research has therefore shown that CBD can be used to reduce anxiety both in the short- and long-term.
